Office of Community Services
The Natchitoches Parish Office of Community Services (OCS) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the residents of Natchitoches Parish through focusing on meeting the needs of the low income and disadvantaged population and in promoting the personal and family growth as they move toward self-sufficiency while preserving their dignity.
Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)
Provides an array of funding for vital community initiatives including assistance for education, employment, emergencies, housing and health care. Community programs are intended to encourage families toward self-sufficiency.
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Provides home energy assistance to help eligible low income households, (particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities and children) meet their home heating and/or cooling needs.
Food For Seniors Program
A Supplemental food program available to low income seniors age 60 and over. Distribution takes place on the 4th Thursday of each month.
Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)
Provides nutritious breakfast and lunch for children ages 12 months to 18 years during the summer months.
Senior Compantion Program (SCP)
Volunteers age 55 and over provide assistance to adults in their community who have difficulty with the simple tasks of day-to-day living.
Clothes Bank/Donation Center
Clothing items are available free of charge to eligible households on a first come first serve basis. Donations to the center are always welcome.
USDA Commodity Program
A supplemental food program available to low income individuals. Applications can be made year-round. Commodities are distributed on the 4th Thursday of each month.
Head Start is a national child development program for children ages 3 to 5, including children with disabilities. Head Start services promote academic, social and emotional development of the children served. The program also addresses the health and nutritional needs of income-eligible familes. The OCS Head Start program is offered to families residing in DeSoto Parish and Natchitoches Parish.
